Jesus said to His disciples in John 6:63, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” I have found this to be true – there is life in the Word of God. But as Jesus continued this statement with the words, “But there are some of you who do not believe,” the Word of God itself does nothing for us if we don’t believe what it says. God’s Word is filled with promises – promises that bring life and joy and peace – but only as we believe them. I can know all about the Bible. I can know every word from memory. But it does nothing to give me life if I don’t believe it. Romans 15:13 says, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…” Joy and peace is ours when we take God at His Word – when we actually believe what He has said. When I find myself downcast and discouraged because of circumstances beyond my control (which is way more often than I would like to admit) God is teaching me to check my faith. Am I believing what He says about me and Himself or am I letting unbelief rob me of joy and peace. What about you? Wherever you are today – whatever may be going on in you and around you – do you believe that God loves you and that He is good? Open your Bible and meditate on His promises and His goodness. Believe Him regardless of what your mind and eyes may tell you. I pray joy and peace will surprise You as He meets your faith.
Believing with you,
Sandra
