Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Where does your help come from?

Psalm 121 says, “I lift my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from?”

It’s as if the Psalmist is saying that he is looking for help, searching desperately the created world, but then he remembers something. He remembers – “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

As I was reading this, along with a devotional that I use frequently, I was reminded that we can look “to the hills” for help. We can look to created things: to people, ourselves, psychology, drugs, etc. But real help comes from the Lord – the Maker of heaven and earth.

I determined this morning that I would focus on the Maker of heaven and earth today – acknowledging that He is my help. The One who is outside of His creation is the One who comes to my aid and He promises that He will not let my foot slip.

I pray that if you’ve lost faith in the help this world has to offer that today you would be renewed as you look to the One who created it all. He is your help and He does not slumber or sleep. He has promised to hold your hand and keep you from falling as you trust in Him.

Because of Jesus,

Sandra
