Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

The Forgotten Power of Prayer – part 2

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. James 5:13-14

In the sermon this week, we saw one way prayer is powerful because of what God does for us. In the passage above from James, what issues are being addressed? Are you experiencing any of these in your life? What does this tell us about the power of prayer?

John Piper once said, “A prayer-less Christian is like a bus driver trying to push his bus out of a rut because he doesn’t know that Clark Kent is on board” I hope you realize that you have an omnipotent (all- powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (He’s everywhere) God that invites you to place all of your problems, questions, fears, etc… at His feet. You don’t have to pretend to be omni-competent!
