Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6
In our sermon from Sunday, we discussed a third reason for the power of prayer. It is because of what God does – how He gets the glory. By praying, we give more of the spotlight in our lives to God. When we come to the end of our strength, we allow God to work. Zechariah 4:6 reminds us that it is, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.” God gets all the glory.
However, in order to have access to the power of prayer and to the ear of God, we must first be followers of Jesus. Jesus, in John 14:12 says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
Did you catch that? If we are followers of Jesus, believing in Him, we will do the works He has done – and even greater! As we are transformed each day more into the image of Christ, as our will each day becomes more His will, we have the power to move mountains.
In John 15, Jesus says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”
“If” – “then”, there are conditions. If we abide in Jesus and His words abide in us, then we can ask. By our faith in Christ we will bear fruit and bring glory to the Father.
I pray that you are finding your prayer time refreshing and that you feel the presence of God.
