Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

What Matters to God When We Pray – part 6

We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will. John 9:31

In the book of John is a story of a blind man that was healed. The Pharisees, who claimed to be followers of Moses because God spoke through Moses, said that the man that healed him could not be from God because he didn’t keep the Sabbath and hung out with sinners. The man that was healed became indignant at their shortsightedness and said, “… Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.” (John 9:30-31)  They recognized and followed a man (Moses) but refused to listen to the Son of God. Who are you following today? The government? Society and culture? Your friends? We need to have an honest relationship with God and the only way is through His Son, Jesus.

You see, God is the one who created us with a purpose to draw us to Himself, that we might exist to bring glory to Him. When something doesn’t go as we plan, we must trust He is conforming us, He’s changing us, He’s drawing us, He’s making us more like His Son Jesus. When you don’t understand, “God, why didn’t You? You could have?” Remember, His heart is always loving. His ways are always higher. No matter what you’re going through, even in this moment, His presence is always enough. Government, society/culture, friends, work will never provide or be the answer that you need.

My prayer for you through this series is to light a fire and strengthen your prayer life and to help you deepen your relationship with Jesus. That’s where it starts. Today can be the day you renew your commitment to serve and follow Him.
