… your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10
Another important aspect of praying that Jesus taught the disciples and teaches us is to seek God’s will and His priorities over our own. Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek His (God’s) kingdom and His righteousness, and all of these things will be given to us.
I believe that our prayer a lot of times is all about us. It’s about what we want. It’s about what we need. “I need a raise. I need a new car. I need you to fix this person in my life over here. Don’t fix me, but fix this person.” Don’t get me wrong. I believe that our Heavenly Father loves us and wants to bless us, but when the majority of our prayers are focused on me, me, me, I think we miss seeing God at work all around us.
See, here’s the thing. When we come to God in prayer, it’s all about Him. It’s not about us. It’s all about who He is. It’s all about what He’s doing. What are His priorities for us? We have to come to Him with the realization that life’s not all about us, but it’s about Him. We have to come to a place where we seek His priorities, His plans over ours. I guess we have to get to the place in our time with God, where we’re seeking the giver and not the gifts that He gives. So what you seeking? Really? Honestly? What’s your life about? In prayer, we have to seek Him first.
