This week we have been looking at Psalm 139 and praying bold and dangerous prayers. Today I want you to consider your response to God’s call, His direction, His leading.
In the Bible, there are three types of responses:
Jonah’s Response: Here I am. I’m not going (“Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” But Jonah ran away from the Lord. Jonah 1:1-3),
Moses’ Response: Here I am. Send someone else (So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:10), In other words, send Aaron. And third, Isaiah’s Response: Here I am. Send me (Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isa 6:8)
For us to respond to God we need a genuine experience with the presence of God. When we realize His goodness and greatness, we should be drawn to His very presence. When we do draw near, however, we become acutely aware of our sinfulness and need for His forgiveness. The more we see how good God is, the more we see how far we are.
This time of year – Holy Week, we see the provision God made for our sins. He sent His Son to be the sacrifice for us; the lamb slain for the sins of the world. In this Holiest of weeks, we get a genuine understanding of God’s amazing grace.
Please make plans to join us for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday Communion, Good Friday Prayer Vigil and our Easter Resurrection Service. I look forward to seeing you and your family.
