Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Effective Evangelism

And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. Jude 1:22-23

Being an effective Christ-follower saves people from God’s judgment. We show the grace and mercy we received through our compassion and kindness; to others we need to show a bolder faith as we snatch them from the eternal fire, hating the sin, but showing the love of Christ to those who are lost.

We should never take evangelism lightly—it is a matter of life and death! The problem I see today is that too many churches and Christians take too lightly the role we play in evangelism. We think everyone wants a feel-good message that says God loves you but we are afraid to challenge them to a real faith that leads to real life change. We are not serious about searching out the lost, the hurting, the disconnected. We’re certainly not concerned about the outcome of so many.

Peter says in 1 Peter 2:9, that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation so that we can proclaim the praises of God who called us out of darkness. Yet many just go through the motions when it comes to professing our faith to others.

As you pray and reflect today, ask God to show you where you need to rise up and stand in the gap. We serve a great and holy God. We need to share this with a world that needs a message of holiness and righteousness.

“Rise up, the Lord is calling, rise up, this is the day, rise up, and seize the moment, rise up, O men of faith!”
