In John 6:63-64, Jesus tells His followers, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” He had just said some “difficult” things and some of the people were grumbling about it. Some even decided at that point they couldn’t follow Him anymore. Do you realize there is spirit and life in the words of Jesus, no matter how difficult they may be to believe and follow? Even the words that feel like death to our ideas and dreams and agendas hold within them life if they are spoken to us by Jesus.
I encourage you to spend time listening to Jesus this week. The Gospel of John is a great place to be when you don’t know what to read. I pray that He will open our minds to comprehend the Scriptures so that we can experience His life – which is joy and peace and righteousness.
Because He lives,
