Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Preaching the Gospel

I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:14-16

How many of us feel that we don’t know enough scripture, or we won’t have all the answers, or for some other reason we are afraid to share the good news of the gospel, that Jesus died and was resurrected for us all? Paul says in Romans 1:14 that he is under obligation to preach the good news to everyone. The oxford dictionary says that obligation is, “an act or course of action to which a person is morally or legally bound; a duty or commitment. Paul had a duty to preach the Gospel to everyone – even those that persecuted and imprisoned him.

The Gospel is the power to save those who believe whether educated or not, moral or not, religious or not. The Gospel is not for a select few or the uber-religious (not sure that this is even a category) but rather it is for everyone. Instead of being afraid, we should be excited to share this news with everyone.

What’s the catch, Paul? What does this require? I don’t know what God will call you to do. Maybe reach out to a friend or co-worker. Maybe become a missionary. Maybe start a ministry. There is no job description painted for you. It’s based on the relationship God has with you. What is your relationship with Jesus?
