Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Speaking Boldly – 2

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him…but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.        1 Samuel 30:6

Have you ever been distressed? Overwhelmed? Overcome? I can imagine that some of you are going through a season of rough seas even now. In those times it is hard to focus on much of anything except the giants that are standing in front of us. King David experienced times of great distress, doubt and despair. In those hard times, he sought God. In the verse above, when the people were talking of killing him, he encouraged himself in the Lord.

You can do the same thing. If you’ve never preached a sermon you start preaching to yourself. The next time you’re overwhelmed and you’re overcome with too much to do, you say; “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!”

You’re overwhelmed at your business, there’s just too much. You preach to yourself, “When I am weak, He is strong. It’s not by my power or by my might, but it’s by His Spirit sayeth the Lord.”

When you’re afraid you just preach to yourself, “God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind!”

When you are worried, you just preach God’s Word to yourself. “I will not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition I will submit my request to God and I will let the peace of God which supersedes all my understanding guard my heart and my soul in Christ Jesus.

Today, ask God to help speak truth into all areas of your life. See you Sunday.
