Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Lovingly Correcting

Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. Proverbs 27:6

There are many times when I know something is wrong and yet I choose to avoid confrontation. Maybe it’s because I want everyone to like me, so instead of lovingly correcting someone, I just bury my head in the sand. I mean, who likes confrontation? However, I have learned that there are times when I love you so much and I believe so much in what God is saying is right and what God is saying is wrong, that I have to lovingly correct you. As the body of Christ, that is our responsibility. Not because we’re better, but because we believe and love deeply.

Whether it’s a friend talking trash about their husband or wife, you’re going to speak encouragement and not let them tear them down.

It could be that you know someone who is addicted; addicted to drugs, addicted to pornography, addicted to alcohol, addicted to work, and you are going to stand in the way and say, “I’m going to get you help. I’m going to stand by you and together we are going to kick this addiction. I love you too much to let you hurt yourself.”

How is God moving you in this area? Today, ask God to give you His words as you speak to those that need correction or encouragement in their lives. Tell God about your toughest struggles in life and your struggles with sin. Ask Him to give you the power to speak words to yourself. See you Sunday.
