Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Real Joy

What brings you the most joy in your life? What is it that puts a smile on your face whenever you think about it? God sending His Son Jesus was and is incredible news of great joy. The King of the universe coming to earth was a big deal, and it brought joy to many people who saw what God was doing.

I love the song, “What Child is This” because it makes us consider who Jesus is. How could such a small baby bring joy to all mankind? When the world was lost and without hope, God sent His Son to find us and bring us joy!

Matthew said that we would call His name Jesus because He will save His people from their sins. Luke said that the angels sent the shepherds to the stable where they would find the baby wrapped in cloths and lying in the manger. John said that the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. Paul said that when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman. King Herod simply wanted this baby found and killed. Fear, hope, expectation, wonder, awe all wrapped up in a small feeding trough.

Jesus was the long-awaited Savior, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Morning Star, the Dayspring, Way, Truth and Life, the Alpha/Omega, beginning/end, Lion of Judah, Lamb of God – and as we celebrate His coming into history, let us more importantly, celebrate his coming into each of us – bringing us real joy.
