Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

America’s Awakening?

Even though I just turned 70, (Brenda Allen), I have never been a part of a “great revival” or what some theologists call a “great awakening”.  The closest thing to it, I guess, were the Billy Graham crusades held in different cities in America and throughout the world.  It always touched my heart to hear the choir singing “Just As I Am” and to see hundreds of people pouring down the aisles to the front: old people, young people and people of every race and gender to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

But could God be preparing our hearts for a worldwide revival like we’ve never seen?  Many pastors and evangelists believe that this could happen.

Monday night on Trinity Broadcasting, there was a 90 minute program called “Surrounded by Michael W. Smith” in Nashville, TN.  He too felt that God wanted to begin a spiritual awakening in Nashville, TN.  Many of the pastors there felt that call from God too and participated in this beautiful musical praise and worship experiene.  There were all age groups there, but especially young people in the 15 – 25 age group.  There was preparatory prayer, praise and music that moved the heart and the spirit.  It was called “Surrounded” because one of the songs spoke of how we think we are fighting the enemy alone, but we are really surrounded by God.  It was held in one of the Nashville arenas and hundreds, perhaps thousands attended.

My prayer is that we, here in Atlanta, and especially here at Three Point, catch the vision and hunger for the presence of God. I believe this is a prayer that God would willingly answer if we have the faith to pray for it.
