We just finished a series on The Church that Jesus Built. We looked at the differences in the mindset of the modern church in light of what Jesus said the church should be. My prayer is that we grew as the body of Christ during this study.
I believe the way we view the Church will determine what we get from the Church. If we are concerned about keeping people happy and avoiding controversial issues, our church wouldn’t be any different than most social clubs. Jesus’ church is so much more. What would someone think about the Church if they thought the Church was primarily for them and what they get out of it?
If we were to interview people about what they think the Church is about, what answers do you think we might receive? From unchurched people? From churched individuals?
If the Church is the body of Christ, a fellowship of believers, the bride of Jesus, then our view of the Church should be something awesome. An opportunity to gather and worship an amazing God, a place where everyone is welcome and everyone is focused on the main thing – to love God, love others and to share the good news of the Gospel message.
Has your understanding of the Church and Jesus’ place in it been challenged during this study? How can Three Point, as a group make sure the keep the main thing the main thing when it comes to being, The Church that Jesus Built?
