Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Moving Ahead

13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Have you ever been held back because of your past? I think of the story of Joseph. He was sold into slavery by his brothers. He was put in prison on false charges and yet through it all God brought him through to something great. If he was focused on his past and his problems, he never would have experienced what God had in store for his future.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians that he is forgetting what lies behind and is reaching forward to what lies ahead. If Paul would have focused on his past, he never would have believed that God could use him for good.

Do you have anything in your past you need God’s help in overcoming? Like Joseph and Paul, we may have gotten off to a rough start, but by God’s grace we can finish well.
