I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about You, Jesus.
In the 1990’s Matt Redmans’ pastor, Mike Pilavachi, asked, “When you come through the doors on a Sunday, what are you bringing as your offering to God?” He then removed the sound system and the band from the service because their worship was more about the trappings instead of true worship. During this experience the church really began to experience God in powerful ways. Upon returning back to sound and band, Matt penned these words:
“When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come / Longing just to bring something that’s of worth that will bless your heart… / I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about You, Jesus”
So, how is your worship? Have we become more accustomed to the performance of worship rather than worship itself? Are we more consumers (what can you do for me…) rather than producers (here I am, Lord…)? I would love to hear your thoughts.
