We live in an age where everyone has an opinion and feels free to voice it through various social media. There are some that sound good but upon further inspection prove to be baseless. Some are just bad from the get-go. But, before we get too wound up, it’s important to remember that this is an opinion. It comes from their perspective and should be seen from that filter – not as absolute truth.
This week, we will be looking at John Chapter 9. When Jesus heals a blind man on the sabbath, several opinions/perspectives are raised.
The opinion of some of the Pharisees is that Jesus is not from God. They say, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” Other Pharisees question, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” Their opinions are mixed. Again, different opinions and perspectives. Some are searching for truth, others have a particular agenda.
The parents want no part in angering the religious leaders and therefore, they just pushed it off on the son when questioned by these leaders – “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind. But how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes.”
Of course, there is the man’s perspective – “Whether he is a sinner (Jesus) I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”
Then there is Jesus’ truth – 35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36 He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” 37 Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.”
In our world today people choose sides. People argue for their perspective, but where does the truth of man fit in? Jesus is the truth. Jesus is the Son of Man. It is His words that bring life.
