God wants to be first priority in our lives. He is either the Lord of All, or He is not. The best test for us is determining what we give back to God. Does He wind up with our leftovers? Is our time, energy, and resources given to other endeavors instead of to Him?
In the book of Malachi, the Israelites dishonored God by giving Him leftovers, sometimes the worst of the flock. God took this insult personally and let them know that He was not pleased (Malachi 1:7-8). Proverbs tells us to, “honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10.
