Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Forgetting the Past

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6

The past can be a funny thing. Some look back to a time when they were happier, healthier, less stressed… in other words, those glory days. The problem with those glory days is that we tend to look at them as all positive and cut out all that was painful.

Others may look back at the past as a place of pain or sorrow. It could be the betrayal of a friend, a significant loss, a difficult obstacle… Sometimes this may leave us in a place that is hard to escape from.

But, no matter how you see your past, our best days as Christ followers are ahead of us. The Apostle Paul, who had quite an eventful past, said this, “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus..” Philippians 3:13-14

There’s a specific reason that our rearview mirror is much smaller than our windshield. It’s because where we are going is so much bigger than where we’ve been.
