Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Rising Above Our Past

We all have a past. Some good and some bad. How we deal with our past impacts our future. In the Old Testament, Joseph certainly had a strange and difficult past. He was thrown into a pit by his jealous brothers and then sold into slavery. He was falsely accused of impropriety by the wife of the man he was serving and thrown into prison. However, through all of these adversities, he remained faithful. He eventually rose to the 2nd highest position – even helping his family (yes, those same brothers that tried to get rid of him) through a severe famine.

He came through an unstable home life but he didn’t allow it to define his future. Regardless of our past, God can equip us to move on. Joseph got off to a rough start but by God’s grace he finished well and so can we.

What in your past do you need God’s help to overcome?
