The resurrection of Jesus is the single most important event in the Christian faith (and I would argue the history of the world!). Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” But the Good News is that Christ has INDEED been raised!
This Sunday, the 13th, is the first day of Holy Week. The week begins when Jesus enters Jerusalem among shouts of “Hosanna” and waving of palm branches (Palm Sunday), to His betrayal and crucifixion (Maundy Thursday and Good Friday), and culminates in the celebration of His resurrection (Easter morning.)
After church this Sunday, all kids are invited for an Easter egg hunt out on the property.
Della and her team are busy preparing for the event and it is always a great time.
On Thursday, we will celebrate communion during our Maundy Thursday service. Maundy is just a fancy word for command (mandate), and it comes from when Jesus was in the upper room for His last meal with the disciples. He shared with them bread (His body) and wine (His blood), and commanded them (and us by extension) to do this in remembrance of what He was doing for us by giving His body and blood for our redemption.
On Good Friday, I invite you to pray throughout the day, reflecting on what Christ did for you, taking on our guilt and shame, and nailing it to the cross.
On Resurrection Sunday, we will celebrate, well, Jesus’ resurrection. It’s a great day of celebration as we experience the redemptive glory of Jesus’ victory over death.
I hope that the upcoming week will be a great time of reflection, prayer, and celebration for you.
