“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
We are in a series that digs deeper into God’s Word—the Bible. On Sunday, we explored Hebrews 4:12. It begins by describing the word of God as active and alive. In what ways have you experienced Scripture coming alive in your life? Seeing this, has this verse changed the way you view the Bible?
The next point was that it is sharp and pierces. Have you ever experienced the Bible exposing or convicting you? Sometimes Scripture reveals a truth that makes us uncomfortable because our way of living is in direct opposition to what God wants for us.
David, in Psalm 139, says, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Opening ourselves more fully to God’s Word allows us to move from simply reading the Word to actually hearing God’s voice through it.
