Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Rooted for Fruit

“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.” — John 15:8

Over the last several weeks, we’ve talked about being rooted — in Jesus, in prayer, in the Word, in community, and in obedience. But roots aren’t the goal. Fruit is.

When I’m rooted in Jesus, I stop striving and start abiding.
When I’m rooted in prayer, I depend on His strength.
When I’m rooted in the Word, my thinking is shaped by truth.
When I’m rooted in community, I’m strengthened and sharpened.
When I’m rooted in obedience, my faith becomes action.

And slowly, fruit begins to grow. The fruit produced in our lives is not forced or manufactured. It is formed. Love becomes more natural. Patience grows steadier. Grace comes quicker.

God’s Word calls this the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23): Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

We don’t produce fruit by trying harder — we bear fruit by rooting deeper. If I want lasting fruit in my life, I don’t need a new strategy. I need deeper roots. Because when the roots are healthy, in season, fruit will come.
