Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Count The Cost

“Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’” — Luke 9:23

Following Jesus is the greatest invitation ever given—but it is not a casual one. Jesus never hid the cost of discipleship. He told His followers plainly that walking with Him requires surrender.

To follow Jesus means laying down our own plans, preferences, and pride so that His will becomes our priority. It means choosing obedience even when it is uncomfortable, unpopular, or difficult. The cross Jesus spoke about was not symbolic to His listeners—it represented sacrifice, suffering, and complete surrender.

Yet the cost is never greater than the reward. When we surrender our lives to Christ, we do not lose what truly matters—we gain something far greater: life with Him. We gain purpose, freedom from sin, and the joy of living for something eternal.

Every day presents a choice: will we follow Jesus only when it is easy, or will we follow Him wherever He leads?
