Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Deny Yourself and Follow Jesus

Then He said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me.’” Luke 9:23

Jesus never promised that following Him would be easy. In fact, He told His disciples that true discipleship requires self-denial, daily surrender, and faithful obedience.

To deny ourselves means that Jesus becomes Lord of every part of our lives. His desires take priority over our own. His will becomes more important than our comfort and ambitions.

Taking up our cross daily is not about carrying life’s unexpected inconveniences. It is a picture of surrender—choosing each day to die to sin, selfishness, and the things that pull us away from Christ. It is a daily decision to trust Him, obey Him, and live for His glory. “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus…”

The good news is that Jesus never asks us to walk this path alone. The One who calls us to follow Him also walks with us, strengthens us, and gives us the grace we need each day.
