One of the things that we struggle with today is impatience. Nobody wants to wait anymore. We want fast food, instant downloads, same-day shipping, and immediately answers. And unfortunately, many people approach love the same way.
Culture teaches us that if you feel it, follow it. If you want it, pursue it immediately. Your emotions should guide your decisions. But Scripture teaches something different. It teaches us that timing matters.
The book, Song of Solomon repeatedly says not to awaken love until the proper time. That phrase appears multiple times in the book because it is one of the central lessons of biblical love. Our feelings and emotions can move faster than wisdom, and when emotions outrun maturity, we often create wounds were never prepared to handle.
The Song of Solomon celebrates love, but it also teaches restraint.
That’s important because biblical love is not merely passionate; it is also wise.
