Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Colossians 1

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14

Paul is writing to encourage the church at Colossae that Jesus is better than the other religions, idols, practices, and belief systems. Paul begins his letter with a greeting to the church for himself and for Timothy. He then writes two paragraphs, 1) thanking God for what He’s done in the lives of the people in the Colossian church, and 2) Asking God to do something in the lives of the people in the Colossian church.

The Colossians – and us- are wrestling with who or what is most important in their lives. We lose sight of Jesus and focus on things that are not as great – we make these things our idols.
