18 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
John 15:18-19
In the last passage, we saw Jesus’ commandment to “love one another as I have loved you.” And we saw HOW Jesus loved his disciples – by calling them friends, by telling them all he was given from the Father, and by choosing them to bear fruit.
In this passage from John, Jesus warns his disciples—as he warns us—to expect the world to hate them for loving Him.
