This phrase “descended into hell” is important so we can feel the weight of our sinfulness. It is our sin that held him there. It is our rebellion that held him there.
We are dead in our trespasses and sins, and we are made alive in the resurrection of Christ. We were dead, and now we’re not.
He’s alive. We have no enemy. Death is dead. Sin is vanquished. We’ve won. Since we know He holds our future, there is a rest, a peace.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
