15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. The unmistakable meaning of the passage is that obedience to Christ’s commandments is both a sign and a test of our love for Him.
You may say, “Times change.” And you are correct, but God’s standards do not. The sin that once amazed us now amuses us. When sin begins to amuse us, we are dangerously close to the edge. The biggest danger to the church is not false religions or atheism – it’s compromise. The church should not reflect or imitate the world but rather we should lovingly confront it.
