Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Nahum

An oracle concerning Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum of Elkosh. The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

Nahum 1:1-3

We live in a time where we seek revenge for things that we believe are done wrong to us. The Israelites were no different. They were looking at the nations around them that were prospering and they began to wonder why God was allowing them to prosper while they were suffering.

Through the prophet Nahum, God reminds His people that He is a God of great power. And while God will bless the faithful, He will not leave the guilty unpunished. For us today, we need to be reminded that God will move and that God knows what is going on in our world. It is not for us to seek vengeance, but remember that God will, in His time, make everything right.
