Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
Philippians 3:8-9
What are you striving for? What is taking your time, energy, money, attention? Is it Jesus or rubbish? Accomplishments don’t produce lasting joy. It doesn’t produce or build faith or a relationship with God. The joy of the Lord is our strength. The Apostle Paul said it like this:
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
Philippians 3:7
What he thought was important was not. Jesus flips things upside down from man. Paul is showing us the beauty and power of really knowing this Jesus. Not just knowing about Him but intimately knowing Him. Are we caught up in worship or waste? In His salvation or sewage?
