Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit…’ With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’ Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
Acts 2:38-41
Many churches today strive to keep the members happy, avoid controversial issues – they lose focus of the main thing. To be the church that Jesus built we need to take a different approach. A church built on the foundation of God’s word– a house of prayer and worship. It begins with recognizing that we are desperately in need of a merciful savior. Then, we devote our lives to serving Him.
The church, if it’s built on a personality; if it’s built on a model; if it’s built on building, on safety … it will fail. It will go away. Period. It has to be built on Jesus and the salvation and new life He offers.
