Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

The Preeminence of Christ

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high … Hebrews 1:3

The Colossians were tempted to seek spiritual nourishment from other spiritual sources, and they were putting those on the same level as Jesus. We might be tempted to similar things like consulting horoscopes or trying types of meditation to open us up to spiritual realities. But for us, more likely the temptation is to just allow something else to become the center of our lives.

However, there is no one else that images God like Jesus Christ does. There is no guru that you can follow like you can follow Jesus. There is no business leader, self-improvement expert that you can trust like you can trust Jesus. There is no human mentor that you can trust like Jesus. There is no person that you should devote yourself to as wholly as you should Jesus. He alone matches all the criteria necessary to be Savior and Lord.
