Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Who Do You Say That I Am?

13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:13-16

At Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked His disciples who people said that He was. The answers that they gave showed many different responses from the people. Like today, many people have their own ideas about Jesus – a moral man, a prophet, Rabbi, healer, etc… Depending on who you ask, you may be surprised at the differences about Jesus.

Jesus then asked them, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter’s response was that Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ. Today we are all asked that same question and our answer is important because eternity is on the line.
