Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. Jude 11
Jude uses these verses (11-16) to describe these false teachers that have slipped into the church. Grumblers, malcontents, boasters, people following their own sinful desires. They tell people what they want to hear instead of telling them what they need to hear. They are bringing in a false doctrine, a cheap grace and are leading people away from the truth.
Spiritual leaders who want to faithfully represent Jesus must constantly remind themselves that their commitment is to the Word of God, not to flowery speech or ear-tickling strategies. Instead, with gratefulness for what God has done for us in Christ, we need to share the heart and mind of Jude—for the sake of God and others.
