Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Zephaniah

“I will utterly sweep away everything from the face of the earth,” declares the Lord. “I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, and the rubble with the wicked. I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth,” declares the Lord. Zephaniah 1:2-3

Like many of the prophets in the Old Testament, Zephaniah begins by showing how angry God is in regards to their disobedience. God is talking about destroying all that He has created because of idolatry, injustice, and immorality. The Day of the LORD is a terrible day of wrath , digress, anguish, and destruction. However, God always offers an opportunity to those that humble themselves and repent.

Remember, even today, God is is a mighty God that is in our midst. He takes great delight in those that humble themselves and follow Him. He takes great delight in us, quiets us with His love and even rejoices over us with loud singing.

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17
