Pages of the history of Kamer-Kollezhsky Shaft #003

The erected shaft was named Kamer-Collegiate throughout its entire length. For convenience, the names of the urban area where it lay were added to it. For example, Kamer-Kollezhsky Val in Khamovniki, on Presnya, in Sushchev, in Sokolniki. But these were still only Moscow landmarks, but not addresses, because there was no development there yet.

In 1754, internal customs duties were abolished throughout Russia, and the Moscow Kamer-Kollezhsky Val folded its main function, for which, in fact, it was built only seven years before this event. Nevertheless, the inspection of peasant wagons continued at its outposts for the detection of worthless goods in them. The company farmers spared no expense in maintaining the rampart in an "impregnable" state, but its fate was sealed. By the way, since 1754, the rampart began to be considered the unofficial border of the city, and since the time of the Moscow plague in 1771, it began to play the role of a cordon sanitaire. It was only in 1864 that the rampart was recognized as the official border of the city, which administratively separated Moscow from the Moscow district. This situation persisted until March 1917, when the "inner ring" of the Moscow District Railway, built in 1903-1908, became the border of Moscow. Since 1960, the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) has become the border of Moscow.

But let's return to Kamer-Kollezhsky Val. What was his future fate? In 1805-1815, the rampart was everywhere torn down, and the moat in front of it was filled up. By the 1830s, a convenient transportation highway had formed along the entire route of the demolished rampart and the filled-in moat, which played a major role in the development of the Moscow suburbs.

In the middle of the 19th century, the name of the nearby area, road, or outpost was now added to the name "Kamer-Kollezhsky Val" for targeted purposes. There were Rogozhsky, Dorogomilovsky, Georgian Kamer-Kollezhsky shafts, etc. This is how the 40-kilometer ring street Kamer-Kollezhsky Val appeared, which received only an even numbering of houses, because its odd side began to serve as the border of Moscow. Initially, the end—to-end even numbering covered several streets - up to 120-130 houses. Later, for addressable convenience, the numbering was established within only one street, Kamer-Kollezhsky Val, i.e. it covered 50-60 houses.

In 1921-1925, the name "Kamer-Kollezhsky" gradually disappeared, and one name of the area where it took place was preserved in the Moscow address book.

Since then, only one name has changed: from 1925 to 1987, Frunzensky Val was replaced by Khamovnicheskiy Val, but its former name has now been restored on the map of Moscow. The historical names of some of the rampart streets were included in the recently published Red Book of Moscow.

The only thing missing from this list is Krestovsky Val Street. We should immediately note that of the 22 "brothers", Krestovsky Kamer-Kollezhsky Val lived the shortest life, and his memory is preserved today only in the name of 2nd Krestovsky Lane, although he himself was named after Krestovskaya Zastava (now Rizhskaya Square). But there is another memory about him, only it is encrypted by time.

Krestovsky Val took the lead in creating the odd side of the numbering of houses, the only one on the entire 40-kilometer distance of Kamer-Kollezhsky Val. How did this happen? The fact is that the odd side of this rampart did not become the border of Moscow.
