Promise me, O women of Jerusalem,by the gazelles and wild deer, not to awaken love until the time is right. Song of Solomon 2:7
One of the greatest struggles in our culture is impatience. Nobody wants to wait anymore. We want fast food, instant downloads, same-day shipping, immediate answers, and unfortunately, many people approach love the same way.
Culture teaches: “If you feel it, follow it.” “If you want it, pursue it immediately.” “Your emotions should guide your decisions.” But Scripture teaches something radically different: timing matters.
Song of Solomon repeatedly says: “Do not awaken love until the proper time.” That phrase appears multiple times in the book because it is one of the central lessons of biblical love. Song of Solomon celebrates love, but it also teaches restraint. That’s important because biblical love is not merely passionate— it is wise.
