Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

Strong and Steady

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13–14

Think about someone you’ve known who was strong and steady. Not the loudest. Not necessarily the most successful. But someone whose faith stood the test of time. Maybe it was a grandparent who read their Bible every morning before the sun came up. Maybe it was a mentor who checked in when your marriage was rocky. Maybe it was a quiet friend who kept showing up when you drifted from God. Those people don’t happen by accident.

In a world that’s constantly shifting—morals, values, priorities—Paul tells us to “stand firm in the faith.” That means rooting ourselves not in trends, feelings, or success, but in Christ.

Life has a way of trying to knock the faith out of you.

  • Some have experienced divorce.
  • Some have lost jobs, buried children, or lived with silent addiction.
  • Some are battling anxiety, lust, fear of failure.

Yet Paul says: Stand firm. Not because we’re tough enough. But because God is faithful, and He will carry you.

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer…” —Psalm 18:2
