“Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” Ephesians 6:16
Faith is not abstract; faith is more than believing God exists—it is trusting Him when life feels uncertain. In Paul’s description of the armor of God, the shield of faith was designed to protect a soldier from flaming arrows. The enemy’s “fiery darts” today can look like fear, discouragement, temptation, doubt, anxiety, or lies about who we are.
The shield of faith does not remove the battle, but it protects us in the middle of it.
Every time we choose to trust God’s promises instead of our feelings, we raise the shield. When we remember that God is faithful, present, and working even when we cannot see it, the enemy’s attacks lose their power.
Faith says that God is with me even now, His Word is true, and I won’t give up because Jesus has already won the victory.
Sometimes the shield feels heavy. That is why we are called to stand together. Roman soldiers often linked shields side by side for greater protection. In the same way, encouragement, prayer, and community strengthen our faith.
