Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples

A Love That Last

“Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is as strong as death… Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it.” Song of Solomon 8:6–7

Our world talks constantly about love, yet finding lasting love often seems increasingly rare. We celebrate the excitement of new relationships, but we don’t always know how to cultivate a love that endures through disappointment, suffering, ordinary routines, and the passing of years.

The closing verses of the Song of Solomon give us a beautiful picture of love that is more than a feeling. It is a covenant. It is steadfast. It is resilient. It cannot be washed away by life’s floods or bought with wealth. The mark of true love is faithfulness.

As Christ followers, we know that this kind of love is not simply produced through our own will and determination. It is something we learn from the God who first loved us. His covenant love never changes. His faithfulness never fails. Because we have experienced His enduring love, we are empowered to love others with patience, sacrifice, forgiveness, and commitment.

These verses remind us that God’s design for love goes beyond romance. It reflects His own heart.
